Auto Body

Services

The auto body shop currently employs approximately 20 inmates and is supervised by a former auto body technician. While no mechanical repairs are made to any serviced vehicles, the shop supervisor offers hand-on comprehensive training on all facets of auto body fabrication. This includes rust repair of vehicle body panels, which often times includes the use of specialized tools such as an angle grinder, orbital sander, & welding machine. Primer & paint is then added to produce a finished product that blends seamlessly with the remaining exterior of the vehicle. For instances where the entire vehicle needs to be repainted, the shop has a 40 foot spray booth and 30 foot sandblasting room.

Skills learned

Offenders are taught to utilize skills that can be used in other employment sectors besides auto body (such as ship fitting, pipe fitting, construction, & sheet metal/HVAC fabrication). The tools they learn to use include but are not limited to: measuring tape, C-Clamps, locking plyers, cutting wheel, drills, wrenches, hammers, soft pack sanders & orbital buffers. They also learn about the importance of wearing personal protective equipment.
